“Nedbrydning” (Deconstruction)

A performance by artist Marie Retpen and sound artist Johannes Smed.

“Nedbrydning” is a sensory performance created for Davinde Festival 2024 and performed only this once.

The work explores themes of change and decay, created through fire, water, and sound:
A sound piece is played live, and the sound waves create changing formations in the water
A soundtrack is linked to a metal plate, which is affected by the vibrations of the sound.
A book is placed on the plate and appears to dance around, performing a quiet ballet.
The book is set on fire, and as it burns, it continues its rhythmic movements, eventually falls over as if it were a living being, slowly breathing its last.
